Scholar Athlete Banquet
Posted by: Frank Ableson in Sussex County on March 26, 2009
Tomorrow evening is the annual SCIL Scholar Athlete awards dinner where high school seniors from the area are recognized for their accomplishments. I've got the privilege to present at the event as a guest speaker. This was a bit more work than I had anticipated, but the speech is ready (thanks to my wife and her relentless editing…), and I am looking forward to the event.
Sussex County Chamber Awards

Tonight is the Sussex County Chamber of Commerce Annual awards dinner. MSI is nominated for the Entrepreneurial Success Award. It was a fun event - though kind of annoying when people left once they determined that they didn't win anything. We were there 'till the end… but didn't win. Oh well.
BlackBerry Application

I had the opportunity to write a BlackBerry software development tutorial recently for IBM’s Developerworks. If you have not had the opportunity, check out http://ibm.com/developerworks for a very rich set of articles and tutorials on all manner of development topics. The tutorials are written in a manner that you can either follow along in a step by step fashion or just read through the text to gain an understanding of the topic. I like to describe them as something you can read "over lunch".
Thinking and Doing

Today I have a C12 meeting in PA. Our "working on my business" topic is Balancing Strategy and Execution. This is an area I have been giving a fair amount of thought of late as we are doing just that - trying to make sure that we are headed in the right direction as a business, and getting done what we said we would do.
Running a business is kind of like sales in a way. There is a lot of energy and excitement when planning (selling) and then when the plan is "approved" (closing the deal), the work begins (delivery). As a CEO, my job (I am learning) is to keep everyone, including myself, focused on their tasks - on a daily, weekly, monthly, etc. basis. Part of that task list is to measure progress against our plan on a regular basis.
