About MSI > History

Started in 1988 as MSI Communications, the company became a regional force in telecom switching and multiplexing. Over the next 13 years, MSI grew into a full-fledged network integration product & services company. In 2001, MSI Communications was acquired by Somera Communications, a global network provider headquartered in Santa Barbara, CA. and became the company's Northeast Sales & Service facility. After only a year, Somera shifted its strategy to become a product sales company, and plans were made to shut down the services division. In 2002 two local IT veterans, one an early mentor to the original MSI team, acquired the service business and started what we now know today as MSI Services.

Since that time, MSI has seen its portfolio of services grow and has added two new divisions. In 2003 MSI rolled out its Web Development & Hosting Division, while the Network Services Division added the CareNET and CareLAN programs, comprehensive coverage programs designed to deal with the growing complexity of business networking systems.

In 2005 the Educational Services Division was started with the opening of our first classroom facility, offering computer classes to our corporate clientele as well as individuals. In 2006, we expanded our training facility to include a second classroom, a study lab, and a testing center. This expanded facility allows MSI to proctor tests as a Pearson Vue Authorized Testing Center and a Certiport Testing Center. In the Autumn of 2006 MSI was approved by the state as a NJ Private Vocational Education Facility, which allows us to provide vocational training for the clients of the regional Workforce Investment Boards, the Dept. of Labor's One Stop Career Centers, and the Labor & Workforce Development Agency.
